The News: Introducing GC Awesome.0

That's right gawkers, GC's got some new duds.  www.graphiccontentfp.com!  It's been a crazy run here at typepad, but it's time to move on.  We're movin' on, evolving.  Utilizing squarespace.com, we're going to bring you that same great local art taste in a brand new wrapper.  We were able to export/import all our posts so nothing's missing!  And we have room to grow.  New features!  New pages!  New potential!

We also got a domain.  Just type www.graphiccontentfp.com into that address bar of yours and presto!  Viola!  GC!
Here's a diagram of what this change means:
Gc_switch

So that's it!  We're out of here.  Time for the GC desk to move on to bigger and better things.  Adios. Don't come here anymore.  Go to graphiccontentfp.com.  Change those links!  Change your bookmarks!  This will change your life!

It has been an honor and shall continue to be an honor,

The Final Panel!

Here it is.  For those unaware, Fresh Friday is a weekly podcast from Fresh Produce (thus the "fresh") every friday (thus the "friday").  The podcast covers a number of different topics and as an annual tradition, there's always one about Free Comic Book Day.

Here is that podcast!  So listen now as Ted helps draw this week of comic celebration to a close with Free Comic Book Day '09.

Thanks for the success, and come back next week for some mondo news on the future of Graphic Content!

If you'd like to get your own work on GC, send submissions to kiel@pickfresh.com.

Inkin'

Hey everybody,

Your humble GC curator, Kiel MagicMouse is back on the horn.  We would like to give the Wordsmith Mike Billeter a gigantic "Thank You" from everyone here at the GC desk and FP Headquarters.  So thank you.  Everything is awesome.  We've had a surge of page visits the likes of which we haven't seen since the Foldness.  So thank you.
And it's not done yet!
We got two more things.  First up is my contribution.  I've been working with a good friend on developing a comic series and here's some concept art.  I'm contractually obligated not to say anything about the story, except that it's called "Coins".  I've been playing with actually inking some strips and it's hecka tough.  Here's those results:
Kielm_ink1
I gave up in favor of some "digital inking"
Kielm_coins
The second thing we have for you is some Fresh Friday podcasts for you dealing with Free Comic Book Day.  We're going to post last years, where I got to interview a Lucas-certified Stormtrooper named Breeze, and we're going to post this years, where my lady friend and I got to talk to 11 year old up and coming comic book artist, Colin.  He is awesome.  He writes Chickenman.

We have no idea when those'll go up.  You'll have to tune in every 15 minutes or so until we post 'em.

AND we have some huge news next week.  Like giganto news.  It'll be the biggest news we've ever had.  Bigger then the Foldness and Graphic Comic week combined!  No joke.  This change will affect your lives.

Stay tuned for podcasts, news, and more!

To get your work posted here, send jpegs in to kiel@pickfresh.com.

Ahh, good to be back.

The hardest job of all? Doing nothing...

Well folks, it appears Graphic Comic is coming to an end. Fortunately, we get to end on a submission that I absolutely enjoyed. Hopefully you've taken some time to see some of the earlier submissions from the week, and if you haven't, I definitely recommend you give them a look.

Moving on to today's work... It comes from real-life, bonafide comic artist Will Dinski, and I have to say that I find it hilarious. I'll explain why I enjoy it so much after I give you readers a chance to enjoy it yourselves, without any influence from me.

The name of the file I received simply said "Sloth," (hopefully that's not the wrong name) so here it is (and don't forget to click it if you want to enlarge it):

Wdinski_sloth

So much work of sitting through the phone's obnoxious ringing, all to be left unrewarded with no message anyway. The irony is just too perfect. Anything I say beyond that will probably just ruin the strip, so I'll go ahead and leave it at that.

Thanks for the awesome submission, Will. It was a great way to finish out the week and end Graphic Comic on a positive and enjoyable note.

So, with Graphic Comic drawing to a close, I'd just like to thank everyone who submitted content for this week's posts. You made my job so much easier by having top-notch work to write about, so I appreciate you helping me sound like I know what I'm talking writing about.

And another huge thanks goes out to everyone that stopped in this week and checked out the posts. Whether you read one or read them all, I had a blast, I appreciate it a ton, and hope you enjoyed it a little bit too.

Finally, thanks to Kiel for letting me captain this ship for the week. I look forward to what you and the rest of the creatives in this region have to share with us in the future.

I think that covers it all. And so, like that, I'm outta here. Enjoy the weekend, and check back soon for whatever great material Graphic Content posts in the future!

Is Juniper one of...The Suckered?

Continuing in the mysterious vein of Oku - The Octoprogrammer (not his official title), Holli Rausch has submitted a fantastic addition to what appears to be an enigmatic cast of characters.

So, for your viewing pleasure, Holli Rausch, in association with Graphic Comic, presents...Juniper:

Holli - Juniper

And, as was the case with Oku, here's the fantastic description as included by Holli:

"What does a girl with all the ambition in the world, but none of the talent, do with her life? In the case of Juniper Cypress, you join Human Resources at the largest software development company in the country. Perhaps an uninspired choice, but she doesn’t have much for talent. One thing she is good at is reading people, and Oku is an encyclopedia. Will Juniper get a chance to be a part of something ambitious? Will she finally find happiness in Octal Industries? Or is she one of The Suckered?"

I love the many looks of Juniper. She's just so cheery and pleasant-looking. For being someone with little talent, I have a feeling she'll be involved in some awesome and entertaining endeavors. I can't wait to see what the Rausches (Rausch's?...still wondering...) have in store for us with The Suckered. These mysterious descriptions have certainly gotten me hooked, and I'm excited to see more from them in the future.

So there you have it. As of now, the second-to-last post of Graphic Comic week. We've got one more submission comin atcha this afternoon, so check back in for that and don't forget to leave a comment or two below if you've got thoughts to share. We'd love to hear them.

A true hero (who makes Superman look silly...)

Now you're probably asking yourself, "Which hero has the ability to make Superman look silly?" The truth is, many of them (but that's because I'm a Marvel guy for life and don't have much love for Superman...sue me...). Even so, I recognize that Superman has some pretty spectacular powers, so it's with no exaggeration that I say that today's submission would be just as well received by the American populace as a living, breathing Superman would be...

And so, courtesy of Mike Dowling, I present to you...

The Accumulator!

Mdowling_accumulator man copy

That's right folks! Saving the economy one person at a time, the Accumulator is here to rescue America from its economic downard spiral. He's the answer we've been looking for (and the hero stock brokers had previously only dreamed of).

On a more serious note, how awesome is Mike's artwork on this piece? It is such a great blend of cartoony appearance and eye-candy crispness that I can't look away. The cape alone gets me excited every time I see it.

Ok...sorry...enough gushing from me. Hope you guys enjoy this piece as much as I do. Stellar work, Mike, and thanks for the submission!

On that note, I'll sign off until tomorrow. I'm not sure how long we'll keep accepting Graphic Comic week submissions, but I'd rather throw it out there as a possibility than discourage people from sending in good material. So send your stuff to kiel@pickfresh.com if you have it and I'll try to squeeze it in before tomorrow.

If not, then just sit back and enjoy the great stuff we'll have coming your way in the morning. And don't forget to check out this morning's great submission from Brian Hauge. When it's titled "The Wisdom of Beards," you know it's going to be good. Thanks for reading and we'll be back soon!

-The Mighty Pen (Mike Billeter)

The Wisdom of Beards

Alright everybody, it’s Thursday and we are back on the grind for Graphic Comic week. While yesterday’s Octopusubmissions (or...Rocktopusubmissions) were certainly enjoyable, we can't take too long enjoying them.

Why? Because we’ve got new content to post and it can’t be contained any longer. We’re kicking off this Thursday with an awesome and hilarious submission from Brian Hauge concerning beards and the vast wisdom of those who grow them.

What vast wisdom, you ask? Take a look for yourself (and click the image to enlarge it if you'd like):

Brian Hauge - beard_wisdom

That kind of wisdom. Now you know.

On a serious note, it’s odd how believable I find this scenario to be. When have you seen a guy with a beard and not assumed he had some wisdom to share with you? Even old men with beards and no teeth still seem like they’ve been around the world once or twice and might have some knowledge to drop on you. In fact, their teeth are probably gone as a result of a lesson they learned and could pass along to me before I lose my teeth.

Fine…that last part’s a stretch. Either way, the post is fantastic and I really enjoyed it (particularly the beard-climbing beginning). Thanks for the submission Brian!

So, there you have it folks. Brian’s post is up and we’ve only got a short bit of time left in Graphic Comic week, so don’t hesitate to get those submissions in to kiel@pickfresh.com very, very soon. I’m looking forward to these last few posts and I appreciate everyone who has been checking in to see these great pieces.

We'll be back with more soon, so don't forget to share your thoughts in the comments section until we're back!

Bonus! - Make room for the Rocktopus!

Perhaps inspired by M!les and Holli’s multi-faceted “Oku – Octopus Programmer Extraordinaire,” the infamous Rocktopus has stepped out of the shadows of retirement to make his presence felt!

You may think a guy who can play guitar AND harmonica is impressive. And it’s probably a challenge to play drums while singing (though Phil Collins makes it look easy…do you like Phil Collins?). But you’ve probably never seen someone something that plays acoustic guitar, electric guitar, drums AND gives itself its own encore!

And so, it is with great pleasure that I present to you a collaborative Fresh Produce piece from Kiel, Ted, and Mike…

The Rocktopus…

Kielm_rocktopus

Now…if only he could team up with the Rock Lobster to create a crustaceanic and cephalopodic combination of musical composition, we’d have quite the musical duo (and a top-notch programmer that the band could hire out to create their website).

It’s almost too good to be true…

Anyway, that’s our bonus addition of the day. We’ve still got submissions coming in, so check back sooner than later to see some more great work from some fantastic creatives. If you’re one of those fantastic creatives, send your stuff into kiel@pickfresh.com.

Graphic Comic for life! (or until the end of the week…)
