The Fold Stops Here

The Foldness is over! That's a wrap! Go home! You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here! We're out!

We're going to end The Foldness by digging in the ol' GC archives for a nice example of seeing the Foldness in the real world. This is the DSU Info-Tron we did for DSU last year. Evidently school counselors love them. We have reports of them making armies of their own Info-Tron's. The Foldness!

Will all this Foldness happening over the past 2 weeks, we've gotten backed up with tons of non-paper craft pieces to start covering. We got some illo's, some ethn' knowledge, some from our very own FP Headquarters, and some from a new, uber-mysterious contributor, a mystery involving socks. What is this Mystery of Socks? We haven't a clue. Tune in next week. We'll explain.

November 13, '08, a new day for the Rock Garden Tour

Attention gawkers!

Tonight will be the historic resurrection of the previously hibernating Rock Garden Tour.  That's right, the underground cult sensation serial radio adventures of Flowerman and Oil Can resume tonight on Augie's college radio station KAUR 89.1 from 8.00 pm - 10.00 pm.  So turn off the Grey's Anatomy and the Office and turn on your trusty old radio's and listen to the triumphant return of the Rock Garden Tour!  Less chatter and more witty banter about gardening!  Confused about what the show actually is?  Good, because the less you know about it, the better.  It's much better to experience as a surprise then a synopsis.

So tune in tonight!  8 - 10 pm!  KAUR  89.1 FM!  And all the following Thursdays!

Super Trojan Master II

Hey everybody,

We've been wanting to share this for awhile and since it went off to print yesterday, we think it's time.  We've been working with Dakota State University and they've let us do some pretty bomb-ass pieces (bomb-ass is a term of endearment btw).

They're introducing a new Game Design Major next year and we came up with a nice booklet that's reminiscent of a strategy/user guide (there's even a level map!) that would be able to fit into a typical DVD/XBox360/PS3 case.  Being a recovering gamer myself, this was an absolute dream job and I had a ton 'o fun.  I took the established art and look of DSU from Eva and put a video game spin on it.  I created the illustrations (reminiscent of the art from Nintendo's Zelda: Wind Waker), added some "+1" lives, made sure there was a princess in peril, and populated it with baddies and allies and let it roll.

Hofer Rocks the DSU

Hey Kids,

As regular gawkers will know, we've been busy over the past two weeks and haven't been posting as religiously.  So I'll take this post to show you some of the stuff we've been up to.  I'm not much into posting commercial pieces, but we've been busy and this is what we've been doing so deal!  Today we're going to feature some more DSU work we've been doing.  Like last week's Info-Tron, this piece is hot off the presses.  Freelance and FP/GC regular Eva Hofer is responsible for this piece and look of DSU as a whole (I basically slapped a robot on top of her art for my Info-Tron).  It looks spectacular and, as per typical Hofer, has wonderful/ingenious/brilliant binding and printing.  Enjoy these few spreads from the DSU Viewbook.

Hello Human...

Hey kids,

We are really losing it on the posts aren't we?  Graphic Content apologizes.  It is stupid busy here right now.  Like super stupid busy.  Like supid busy.  Or stuper busy.  Or something.  Lots of stuff being worked on here at FP.  Speaking of... we're actually going to share one of our recent projects with you today!  Here is our recent pride and joy, the DSU Info-Tron.  This little gem is a positioning piece for Dakota State University focusing on getting kids to send in for more information about DSU.  We took this to the next level with an interactive element where inquiring students can actually punch out a perforated template to fold up their own Info-Tron.  It's a paper-toy!  And it's glue-less!  You can make it right there!  How fun is that?!  I'm not going to talk any more about it.  We do need to give a shout out to Eva Hofer, who established this year's look for DSU (nice, hip, modern, great).

Tis the season...

...for weddings!  Today's submission is from rockstar freelancer Eva Hofer.  Teaming up with artist Liz Bashore (Heeren?) once again, they created these great wedding invites.  I really dig the screen printed feel and proper craft paper choice (a trademark of Eva's).  Not only is the art great but there is also some other fun stuff going on: the invites feature a section where the recipient is to draw their own self-portrait.  How great is that?!

The wedding reception itself featured giant paper mache woodland creatures hanging from the ceiling that were created by Liz and her mother Mary Groth, another bona fide Midwest artist.  They paper mache'd 'em and then painted over them in some great abstract designs.  Below is one of those creations.

the Folk Fest's Dynamic Duo

Two posts in one day?  Better believe it.

Freelance designer Eva Hofer and bona fide regional artist Liz Bashore have been teaming up for the past couple years to create the Sioux River Folk Festival posters.  Liz does the illustrations and Eva tops it off with the type and design.  Well done, ladies.  I think these posters are tops.  Brilliant.  And I suppose the festival isn't too shabby either.
