Is Juniper one of...The Suckered?

Continuing in the mysterious vein of Oku - The Octoprogrammer (not his official title), Holli Rausch has submitted a fantastic addition to what appears to be an enigmatic cast of characters.

So, for your viewing pleasure, Holli Rausch, in association with Graphic Comic, presents...Juniper:

 

And, as was the case with Oku, here's the fantastic description as included by Holli:

"What does a girl with all the ambition in the world, but none of the talent, do with her life? In the case of Juniper Cypress, you join Human Resources at the largest software development company in the country. Perhaps an uninspired choice, but she doesn’t have much for talent. One thing she is good at is reading people, and Oku is an encyclopedia. Will Juniper get a chance to be a part of something ambitious? Will she finally find happiness in Octal Industries? Or is she one of The Suckered?"

I love the many looks of Juniper. She's just so cheery and pleasant-looking. For being someone with little talent, I have a feeling she'll be involved in some awesome and entertaining endeavors. I can't wait to see what the Rausches (Rausch's?...still wondering...) have in store for us with The Suckered. These mysterious descriptions have certainly gotten me hooked, and I'm excited to see more from them in the future.

Today's clever creation? A computer-savvy cephalopod...

Good morning, everyone! While a new day is always good for a fresh start, I think the most exciting thing about a new day is that it brings new Graphic Comic artwork. Fortunately, M!les and Holli Rausch are here to start the morning off right for us all.

 

But, before we get to their spectacularly cephalopodic submission, I’d just like to mention that if you missed yesterday’s great pieces, you can navigate your way back through them by clicking here.

 

Now, onto this “comic-al collaboration” from M!les and Holli. They’ve managed to remove any need for my own description (mostly because theirs is perfect), so I’ll just post the image and then their accompanying commentary.

 

 

 

Now, here’s some description, straight from the Rausches (Rausch’s?):

 

“Oku is a programmer, yearning for more. He spends his days at the mercy of his managers at Octal Industries, who take advantage of his multi-faceted nature. In turn, he learns all he can about big business, hoping to realize his dream of writing software like poetry. It all begs the question, just who really is The Suckered?”

 

Brilliant. Just brilliant. I love the facial expressions. I love the pencil holding. I love the fact that it’s an octopus with a personality and back story.

 

For some reason, octopi have always creeped me out. With that in mind, I’d say this submission does a great job of creeping me out (he looks so…aware…), while still making me empathize with Oku in his pain and sorrow (as seen in Oku’s “sad” face). I’d say covering both those bases shows that it’s clearly a well-done piece.

 

Thanks for your submission, M!les and Holli! I can't imagine many readers expected to see a computer-programming octopus this week, so I'm confident they'll enjoy Oku and his many facets as much as I enjoyed them.

Happy Birthday Holli Rausch.

We have a couple submissions lined up and we were debating which one to post today.  Then we heard it was Holli Rausch's birthday, so that settled the debate.  Rausch posted a great series of sushi themed wallpapers last month and they flew right by us.  But they're so great we're still going to post them.

The wallpapers really get that simple, modern, Japanese feel.  We love them.  Rausch in perfect form in her vector elements.  Their modern design make 'em perfect wallpapers.  We just picked our fav colors but you can find a number of different colors and sizes on Rausch's Flickr, so dig that if you like what you see.

And on the subject of b-day's, it's also FP Headquarters' maverick copywriter Quinn Kathner's birthday.  Celebrations abound!

Party Party Rausch Party

We here at Graphic Content deem that on this day, April 14th of the year 2009, we shall celebrate the illustrations of 605 Magazine.  For this month anyway.  And there'll probably be another one of these celebrations in May.  But until then, we shall party the great illustrations of local 605 Mag!

Up first in this day to end all parties is longtime GC friend, Holli Rausch.  She recently posted on her blog a great sketch of the initial design for the illustration.  Take a gander:

The Foldtrocity Continues with Rausch's Fortune

We're going to continue our tribute to paper this week with a piece Holli Rausch dropped off yesterday.  The local freelance designer recently revamped her resume and gave it a "Fortune" theme.  Here's a pic-

That's right, rewind the clocks to your middle school days, the paper fortune teller is back.  Each fold reveals a different part of the resume, encouraging the recipient to "tell the fortune" of Holli.  We dig the top pattern and color scheme-

The back of the fortune has the address hollirausch.com/fortune, which directs them to her website and a page that instructs them how to use the device.

We can't get over that line pattern.  Nice, clean, fun, playful, and printed on paper.

GC's Real Life Virtual Friend Holli Rausch

One of the several "virtual friends" we meet in the real world during the ipso opening was GC regular Holli Rausch.  Freelance-graphic-illustrator-guru, Rausch recently did an illustration for the March 605 Magazine.  She preceded the launch of the issue with some great "making of" posts on her blog.  I always get a kick out of seeing the evolution and workings of a piece.  Thus we present the Making of Rausch's Energy Saver:

The Ipso: A Day to End All Days

It's here.  It's Friday.  It's the opening of the Ipso.  It's Fresh Produce's 5th anniversary.  Tonight, from 5.00 pm to 8.00 pm, the streets at 6th and Main shall flow with wine and revelry!  The pieces are coming into the gallery like a deluge!  There'll be so many posts today, you'll just explode.

First up is a great contribution Holli Rausch sent us to celebrate the big 5.  It's like a homemade b-day card made from scratch.  My absolute fav bit is the party favor in the lower right.

A Holli Rausch update

Let's welcome Holli Rausch to Graphic Content!

That's right folks, this week we introduce a new face to the GC community.  Holli Rausch is a recent DSU graduate with a Graphic Design major and is currently rockin' the freelance world a la Sioux Falls.  I caught drift of Holli Rausch through a link she posted to Graphic Content on her blog/website/portfolio/more-work-then-you-can-shake-a-stick-at site.  I took these samples straight from her website ("with permission, of course").  I chose some of her vector-ish work.  It is as follows-
