Inkin'

Hey everybody,

Your humble GC curator, Kiel MagicMouse is back on the horn.  We would like to give the Wordsmith Mike Billeter a gigantic "Thank You" from everyone here at the GC desk and FP Headquarters.  So thank you.  Everything is awesome.  We've had a surge of page visits the likes of which we haven't seen since the Foldness.  So thank you.

And it's not done yet!

We got two more things.  First up is my contribution.  I've been working with a good friend on developing a comic series and here's some concept art.  I'm contractually obligated not to say anything about the story, except that it's called "Coins".  I've been playing with actually inking some strips and it's hecka tough.  Here's those results:

The second thing we have for you is some Fresh Friday podcasts for you dealing with Free Comic Book Day.  We're going to post last years, where I got to interview a Lucas-certified Stormtrooper named Breeze, and we're going to post this years, where my lady friend and I got to talk to 11 year old up and coming comic book artist, Colin.  He is awesome.  He writes Chickenman.

We have no idea when those'll go up.  You'll have to tune in every 15 minutes or so until we post 'em.

AND we have some huge news next week.  Like giganto news.  It'll be the biggest news we've ever had.  Bigger then the Foldness and Graphic Comic week combined!  No joke.  This change will affect your lives.

Bonus! - Make room for the Rocktopus!

Perhaps inspired by M!les and Holli’s multi-faceted “Oku – Octopus Programmer Extraordinaire,” the infamous Rocktopus has stepped out of the shadows of retirement to make his presence felt!

 

You may think a guy who can play guitar AND harmonica is impressive. And it’s probably a challenge to play drums while singing (though Phil Collins makes it look easy…do you like Phil Collins?). But you’ve probably never seen someone something that plays acoustic guitar, electric guitar, drums AND gives itself its own encore!

 

And so, it is with great pleasure that I present to you a collaborative Fresh Produce piece from Kiel, Ted, and Mike…

Now…if only he could team up with the Rock Lobster to create a crustaceanic and cephalopodic combination of musical composition, we’d have quite the musical duo (and a top-notch programmer that the band could hire out to create their website).

 

It’s almost too good to be true…

Next Panel Reads: "Graphic Comic"

May 2nd, 2009 marks an exciting day for America, 2nd only to the 4th of July, and then just barely.  Tomorrow shall be a day for the history books, for it marks the annual Free Comic Book Day.  Tomorrow, all you have to do is show up at your local comic book shop and you shall get loooooads of free comics.  Last year I went and I met a Stormtrooper (named Breeze).  No joke.  It was incredible.  Stormtroopers are much more talkative then you would think.  If you reside in the greater Sioux Falls metro area, show up at Rainbow Cards & Collectibles tomorrow between 10.00 am and 6.00 pm to get your free comics and a picture of yourself getting arrested by a Lucas-certified Stormtrooper.

To mark this national holiday, Graphic Content will be launching our next theme.  In the vein of our wildly successful Paper Craft Week, the Foldness, all next week GC will be celebrating all things comics in what we are deeming Graphic Comic.  We will only post comic themed submissions all week from some of your fav contributors as well as some brand new faces.  We are also asking you to help us in Graphic Comic Week by sending your own comic themed pieces.  Give us your superheroes, your slice of life strips, your Sunday funny bests, just give us anything that is inspired by the idea of "comics".  You can send submissions to [email protected].

To help us with Graphic Comic, we're inviting local comic expert and new media maestro Mike Billeter to guest blog for us here at the GC desk.  Sure, I like my Scott Pilgrim and my Adrian Tomine, but I don't have near the mental database of all things comic then the Astonishing Mike Billeter.  So after this post, I'll talk to you in a week.  The only thing you'll hear for a week is the Uncanny musings of Mike Billeter.  Check him out here (twitter), here (blog), and here (the Shop).

And for those of you John F. Produce fans out there, we'll also be talking about the YouTube superpower submissions he's been collecting.  From what we can garner, maverick wordsmith Quinn Kathner has a go at it.  So in other words, next week will blow your mind.  Period.

Upstage Reality: A Making of...

Regular GC visitors will remember that a few weeks ago the FP Headquarters sounded out a Red Rocket Alert Stage.  We only initiate the Red Rocket Alert Stage during the most intense of times, during which we experience extreme productivity, massive amounts of work, and general madness.  During this most recent RRAS, we helped the Washington Pavilion launch next year's Husby Series.  So upon an unknowing SxFs, "Upstage Reality" was released.

Produce" Meyer; and the doodlin' musings of your humble GC Curator, Kiel Mutschelknaus.  And perhaps the biggest player in this project, the client that said "Yes", the Washington Pavilion and it's astonishing Marketing Dept.

All Float On Anyway OK

Last week we had a ton of fires here at the GC desk. The fires are put out, the files are off to the printers, and it's time to party.  Let's start the party this week with a new banner. 

The first thing you need to know about our new banner is that it's sexy as hell.

Roads? We Don't Need No...

We're at it again.

We got a great week lined up for you here. We're here with a new banner but still have all that same great local art taste you've come to expect from Graphic Content.

Do you do anything visual? We want to see it. For real. If you're an artist that is close to the extreme south-east SD and do anything visual, we want you to send us some jpegs for us to post. That's how GC works. So let's make it work.

This week we've got some Eva Hofer, some great local illo's via 605 Mag, a great FP Headquarter's chalkboard drawing from Isaac Reichenbach himself, and a Mystery (TT?).

The Fold Stops Here

The Foldness is over! That's a wrap! Go home! You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here! We're out!

We're going to end The Foldness by digging in the ol' GC archives for a nice example of seeing the Foldness in the real world. This is the DSU Info-Tron we did for DSU last year. Evidently school counselors love them. We have reports of them making armies of their own Info-Tron's. The Foldness!
